Things To Do Around the Davao Crocodile Farm (Davao City, Philippines)

There are several things one can do after visiting the Davao Crocodile Farm. The "limited" development in the area allows these options.

1. Try chicken or pork barbecue at the Kaonanan Restaurant. Just a wee bit pricey, their barbecue meals are delicious.

2. Sport a new tattoo courtesy of the tattoo shop.

3. Check out civet coffee, the world's most expensive coffee, a coffee "manufactured" from an Asian palm civet dropping. This is a delicacy for the coffee connoisseur, a product that's being sold in Europe in prices that cost an arm and a leg. You also find them in Bali. In Davao, a small cup of Civet coffee costs PhP150. If that's too much for you, then try their non-dropping "Altura" coffee at PhP60 instead.

4. Durian ice cream from Sweet Spot Ice Cream shop.

5. Buy your souvenir items here: a Davao shirt; those pearl bracelets, necklaces and trinkets; a colorful mask, a wooden handicraft, a shoulder bag from beads, a bracelet, etc.

6. Take a selfie from any of the shops and upload it in Facebook ASAP. :)

7. Check out the nearby Butterfly Farm.

Daytime at People's Park - Davao City Sights

The last time we visited Davao City's "People's Park", it was after dark when the lights rendered the life-sized statues of Kublai Millan a certain frivolity. But daytime gives them a more natural rendering because you see them the way they are without the element of nocturnal drama. Make no mistake, the pieces still exude theatricality and you can't help ogle at them. Even the simplest depictions - a woman sweeping the ground, a farmer hauling away a bunch of bananas, a maiden mopping the floor, a couple walking on stilts - are a joy to watch.

There were several statues I missed during my last two visits -and these we caught this time. The park is really an oasis in the very heart of Davao City.

At the gallery (left) was a photo exhibit of some of the great churches of the Philippines including several colonial/dated ones that I saw last time I was in Iloilo.

People's Park feels like a gift for the locals. Admission is free and there's security at the entrance gate. People could relax here, sit on benches under canopies, watch people jog, etc. It's just too bad that the fountains don't work in the daytime. It seems that the fountains have very limited "work hours" because the last time we visited in the evening, they weren't functioning as well.

Seagull Inland Resort Revisited - Guihing, Davao del Sur

We first visited Barangay Guihing's Seagull Inland Resort a couple of years ago and we were pleasantly surprised to find such an establishment of its kind in Davao del Sur. When we were finally able to explore Davao del Sur, we made sure we dropped by Seagull Inland Resort to check it out once again.

The place doesn't seem as well maintained as it used to. The cobbly road going to the main hall was lined by grass that needed weeding, but the rest of the facilities looked exactly the same. The pine trees have grown, casting a shadow on the pavement. There was a single family waddling in the swimming pool waters. There was no one else there. Several edifices near the entrance have mushroomed; they weren't there the last time we visited. The huge white tourist cart was nowhere in sight so it must have been decommissioned.

Yup, there's no entrance fee for visitors, but if you plan for a dip in the pool, a cheap fee is to be paid at the counter. The sun was bearing down its wrath, but when we ordered for a cold diet coke, we were told they only had the regular coke (which was fine by me).

We walked towards the fenced ostrich farm and saw several of those long necked creatures, each one looking menacing. I do not like ostriches. They seem to charge forward without due intimidation. I am fearful of their beaks. Grrr...
