The Candy Shop at KL's LCCT

I'm not one to splurge while on the road, except where DVDs are concerned, but last September while roaming the shops at the LCCT (Low-Cost Carrier Terminal) for my flight back to Manila, I chanced upon this shop which never "made a mark" before.

I remembered my 9 year old niece. Whenever we'd pass by a candy store in Manila, she'd get into a tizzy and make herself dizzy going around the shop. It takes her forever to pick the ones she really wanted - and her indecision eventually tries my patience. I mean, get hold of yourself. Pick what you want and go! I did just that. I picked what I wanted - for her! - and ended up with a candy stash worth 60 ringgit (that's around P820 or almost $20).

Well, here's that shop called Pangkor Local Delight - or Country's Tid-Bits and Candies Cottage! These colorful sweets could be scooped out from their baskets (then weighed). While most of them are candies, jellies and gums with fancy names, quite a number are dried fruits like mango, grapes (prunes), kiwi, pineapple, guava, etc. My favorite - tamarind! They're sweet and sour and gives you the shivers! :)

This shop is located at the pre-departure area close to the escalator. They have branches at the Genting Highlands, Mid Valley Megamall, and the Sunway Pyramid Resort.

This is the Eye in the Sky!

Dried Kiwis - not as appetizing as the real ripe fruits.

Dried tamarind fruits - delicious!

NOTE:

LCCT has ceased to exist as of 2014. It has been replaced by the new KLIA2 terminal located in the same vicinty where LCCT was. We are keeping this post as "souvenir" of the LCCT.

Hey! Tamarind candy is my favorite too! But it doesn't look the same.

My Grandma would soak ripe tamarind in processed palm juice covered and kept under ground for days and send us the whole pot when it was ready. Absolutely delicious!

Here in the States we get to buy in the Indian stores a candy called Imli which is nothing but sweetened ripe tamarind rolled into tiny balls and wrapped. It is my favorite!

Have you tried Ginger candy?! Supposed to be good for health but can't eat a lot. That is one candy someone will have to force me into; everything else, bring it on!

@ NRIGirl:

There are several varieties of preparation for the tamarind sweets in the Philippines and I am sure the one you're familiar with is as delectable. I like them because of its combination of taste: sweet and sour.

As for the ginger candy, I haven't tried it yet. I am not sure I'd be pleased with its taste. Haha. I've never thought of ginger as candy material. :) But I would try it if I saw one.

That's true. It's the colors (I think)that make it very inviting. :)
